Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, kicked off their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup campaign in style, thrashing New Zealand 4-1 at the Cibao Stadium on Wednesday night, Center-kick.com, reports.

Shakirat Moshood, Taiwo Adegoke, Faridat Abdulwahab, and Taiwo Afolabi scored for the Flamingos, securing a convincing win.

Nigeria dominated from the start, with Moshood opening the scoring in the 2nd minute. Adegoke doubled the lead with a long-range shot, while Abdulwahab added a third before halftime.

Taiwo Afolabi sealed the victory with a powerful header in the second half, before New Zealand’s Hannah Saxon scored a consolation goal from a corner kick.

Goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma made crucial saves to deny New Zealand, while Harmony Chidi and Peace Effiong threatened throughout.

The Flamingos now face Ecuador on October 19, with a victory securing their spot in the knockout stages.
