Atalanta BC President Antonio Percassi has dismissed any possibility of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman leaving the club during the January transfer window, despite widespread interest from some of Europe’s biggest football teams.
Lookman’s stellar form over the past season and into the current campaign has elevated him into the ranks of Europe’s most sought-after players. The 2024 CAF Player of the Year nominee continues to dazzle with his performances, including a last-minute winner against AC Milan, bringing his Serie A stats to eight goals and four assists in just 12 games this season.
Across all competitions, the 27-year-old has already delivered 10 goals and five assists in 17 appearances, underscoring his value to Atalanta’s ambitions. While Lookman’s current contract runs until 2026, the club is working on a new deal that includes a significant pay rise to reflect his growing importance.
“We have no intention of altering our squad in January,” Percassi confirmed, squashing rumors of an imminent sale. This stance aligns with Atalanta’s broader strategy of maintaining stability mid-season, especially with Lookman being a key component of their offensive lineup.
The Nigerian international has caught the attention of European giants such as PSG, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, with reports suggesting Atalanta has placed a hefty valuation of €60–€70 million on the player. Despite this, the club’s priority remains securing Lookman’s services for the long term rather than cashing in on his market value.
Since his €15 million arrival in 2022, Lookman has proven to be an invaluable asset for Atalanta. His historic hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen and his 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings have cemented his reputation as a world-class talent.
With accolades such as nominations for CAF Men’s Player of the Year and the Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Men’s Player, Lookman’s star continues to rise. For Atalanta, keeping the forward in Bergamo is more than a tactical decision—it’s a statement of intent.
