Hamburger SV has secured the loan signing of Nigerian-born winger Adedire Emmanuel Awokoya-Mebude from Belgian club KVC Westerlo for the remainder of the 2024/25 season. The 20-year-old, who previously trained at Manchester City, brings explosive pace and attacking versatility to the German side, which aims to boost its squad following a key injury setback.

Adedire Mebude’s Journey from Manchester City to Germany
Mebude began his football career at Rangers before making a move to Manchester City’s youth academy in 2020. While at City, he developed into a highly technical and pacey winger, eventually moving to KVC Westerlo in Belgium. Despite representing Scotland at the U21 level, he remains eligible to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, keeping his international future open.
Hamburger SV’s board member for sport, Stefan Kuntz, praised Mebude’s abilities, particularly highlighting his speed and creativity on the wings. The club needed reinforcements after Bakery Jatta suffered an ankle ligament injury, and Mebude’s arrival is expected to bring a fresh attacking dynamic to HSV’s 2. Bundesliga campaign.
Joining HSV presents a crucial opportunity for Mebude to gain valuable first-team experience in a competitive league. His ambition to make an impact at the club aligns with HSV’s push for promotion to the Bundesliga. If he thrives in Germany, it could open doors for a long-term stay in European top-flight football or even a call-up to the Nigerian national team.
