Ajax striker, Chuba Akpom has once again expressed his eagerness to represent Nigeria at the international level. Born in London to Nigerian parents, Akpom, 29, remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles despite previously representing England at youth level.
The former PAOK player, who switched international allegiance in 2019, has not received an invitation to join the Super Eagles since making himself available. Undeterred, Akpom remains committed to his goal, stating, “I try to give a 100%. I’ve been waiting since 2019. I’ve switched allegiances a long time ago, but if it happens, it happens, I’ll just keep working hard.”
Akpom clarified his decision to switch allegiance, explaining that it was not due to a lack of opportunities with England, but rather a desire to connect with his Nigerian heritage. “It’s not that the players are switching over because they can’t play for England, it’s just that they’ve not had the opportunity to play for Nigeria from a young age. They play in England, and they play for England from youth levels all the way up,” he added.
Akpom’s determination and commitment to representing Nigeria will undoubtedly resonate with fans, who eagerly await his potential debut for the Super Eagles.
