Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, kick off their 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup campaign against New Zealand’s Young Football Ferns on Wednesday October 16, 2024.

Coach Bankole Olowookere’s squad aims to surpass their impressive 2022 third-place finish. Led by star forward Harmony Chidi, who scored 12 goals in qualifying, the Flamingos are hungry for the title.

Nigeria won their previous encounter 4-0 at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India.

The Flamingos boast a potent attack, while New Zealand, under coach Alana Gunn, seeks an upset.

The match will be played at the Estadio Cibao FC, Santiago de los Caballeros, 2100 hours Nigerian time (WAT), where Fans out there can watch on FIFA+ and on StarTimes.

Nigeria is favored, but New Zealand will make it competitive. Coach Olowookere is confident, targeting the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
