The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) has unveiled its highly anticipated list of nominees for the 2024 awards.
Among the illustrious 30-player shortlist are two Nigerian sensations, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen.
Lookman, who also made the Ballon d’Or shortlist, has been unstoppable in 2024.
His pivotal performances propelled Atalanta to their maiden European title and earned Nigeria a spot in the 2023 African Cup of Nations final. The talented forward netted three crucial goals in the tournament.
Osimhen has mirrored Lookman’s impressive form, driving Nigeria’s AFCON final run and consistently finding the back of the net for Napoli and Galatasaray. His double-digit goal tally has cemented his status as one of the world’s top strikers.
Lookman and Osimhen join an elite group of nominees, including: Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid).
The IFFHS awards recognize the crème de la crème of football, honoring outstanding players, coaches, and teams based on statistical data and individual achievements. Categories include Best Men’s Player, Best Women’s Player, Best Goalkeeper, and more.
The winners will be announced later this year, and football fans worldwide eagerly await the outcome.
